Bathroom Remodeling Nightmares to Avoid

Home / Remodeling / Bathroom Remodeling Nightmares to Avoid

Renovating your bathroom can be stressful and exciting in equal measure. Between managing contractors, choosing tiles, deciding whether to install cable television in your shower… It’s a lot of work. When there are so many things to look after, it’s nearly impossible to stay on top of everything.

We’ve listed the biggest bathroom remodeling nightmares that homeowners tend to face. Look into these early to stay ahead of the issues, prepared, and ready for anything. You got this – and your bathroom is going to look great.

Mold, mold, mold

Mold is a bigger issue in bathrooms than in any other room of the house because bathrooms attract a lot more moisture. Don’t set tiles or other fixtures aren’t set over mold, or you could turn an easily-fixed problem into a hidden one. Check for spots on the ceiling and near the baseboards, too.  You want to catch and fix mold problems before you finish your remodel.

Issues with the drains

The common problems with bathroom remodels tend to come down to the same thing: water, where it’s going, and where it’s coming from. Drainage is going to be an important facet of your bathroom remodel. Make sure your drains are working at peak performance. Look to see if water is running through them slowly. Check to see if there are leaks in or around your tub or shower. Bring up any issues with your contractor before it’s too late.

Venting

We’re back to water – again – but this is a big deal! Don’t forget about the importance of proper venting when it comes to a functional bathroom. Has your contractor paid attention to your needs regarding an exhaust fan with accompanying outdoor vent so you can make sure moisture build-up doesn’t cause the aforementioned mold? Does your existing ventilation work properly? If not, how do your contractors plan on fixing it?

How is water pressure being handled?

If new faucets and other fixtures are being installed, especially if there are going to be more fixtures than in your bathroom’s previous iteration, have you considered how your existing plumbing will handle the extra load? Make sure you don’t forget about water pressure — nobody likes a weak shower.

Your bathroom is your happy place. Make sure it’s exactly the way you want it. If you ever have questions or concerns about updating your plumbing and want some help from experts, look no further than the technicians at Ben Franklin Plumbing of Dallas.
