Increasing Your Faucet’s Water Pressure

Home / Plumbing / Increasing Your Faucet’s Water Pressure

Water PressureA lack of water pressure in a faucet can be extremely frustrating. While there are some instances where the problem is with the faucet itself, there are other times where an issue elsewhere in your plumbing is to blame. It’s very important that you call a professional plumber to have your system checked rather than try to fix the issue on your own. If you try it yourself and make even a small mistake, you could be looking at an extensive – and expensive – plumbing repair.

What to Expect

When you call the professionals with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing Dallas, we’ll first check that your pipes are the right size to deliver satisfactory water pressure. There is a chance that you could have outdated plumbing that is too wide. Then, we’ll look at the condition to the pipes to make sure that they’re not clogged by corrosion, rust or something else. If this is the case the problem pipes will need to be replaced.

Once we have established that the problem is not with your pipes but rather the faucet itself, here are some of the steps we will usually take to take care of the issue:

  • First we’ll unscrew the small screen at the end of the faucet known as the aerator. We’ll clean it thoroughly to see if that was the problem.
  • If that doesn’t solve the issue, then we’ll disassemble the faucet to find the source of the clog that is causing low water pressure.
  • Once we have cleared the clog and turned the water off and on a few times to confirm proper water pressure has returned, we’ll reassemble the faucet and thoroughly clean up our work area.

In some cases, the issue is with the water pressure regulator. This is typically located somewhere close to the area where your plumbing meets your house. Thankfully, though, this is rarely the cause of the problem.
