How to Fix Leaky Shower Faucets

Home / Faucets / How to Fix Leaky Shower Faucets

How to Fix Leaky ShowerWater that is constantly dribbling from a shower head should definitely be fixed before you see the cost of your water bill increase. There’s no need to worry though, because your favorite plumbers, Ben Franklin Plumbing, have created a simple tutorial to show you how to fix leaky shower faucets. Simply follow our step-by-step instructions to save on water as well as your monthly bill.

Prep Work

There’s a little bit of prep work that needs to be completed before you begin the project. Luckily, it is straightforward and simple.

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Remove the shower handle by unscrewing it (if it’s being stubborn you can blow hot air from a blow dryer on it for a minute to loosen it).

Remove the Cartridge

The next steps for how to fix leaky shower spouts may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer of the faucet, as each one is made a little different.

  1. Remove the stop tube.
  2. Remove the cartridge retaining clip and the handle washer (it may be best to use a screwdriver).
  3. Twist the cartridge stern and then pull it off once loosened (it may be best to use pliers).

Some cartridges can be tricky to remove and may require a cartridge puller, which is available at most hardware and plumbing stores. You may want to bring your old cartridge with you when you go to the hardware store because it’s important to find an exact replacement.

That’s our simple tutorial for how to fix leaky shower faucets. Once you’ve installed the new cartridge and put the faucet back together, it shouldn’t be leaking anymore. If the problem continues, then give Ben Franklin a call or contact us online. We offer prompt and reliable service and can fix a leaky shower faucet in no time.
